Terms of Reference Chinese Language Interface Advisory Committee (CLIAC)

To advise the Deputy Commissioner of the Digital Policy Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on:

  • the submission of local characters for Chinese computer systems to the International Organization for Standardization and the follow-up of the related issues;
  • the promotion of the adoption of the ISO/IEC 10646 international coding standard in Hong Kong;
  • the co-ordination in connection with the need for local characters for Chinese computer systems of different sectors in Hong Kong; and
  • the management of the Hong Kong Supplementary Character Set (HKSCS).

Working Group of Chinese Language Interface Advisory Committee (WG-CLIAC)
  • To validate applications for the Inclusion of Characters in the HKSCS;
  • To consolidate the collection of local characters for Chinese computer systems for submission to the International Organization for Standardization;
  • To promote the usage of ISO/IEC 10646 international coding standard-enabled Chinese applications;
  • To advise on the technical issues arising from the adoption of the ISO/IEC 10646 international coding standard and the HKSCS; and
  • To advise on the development of local characters for Chinese computer systems related information and standards.
